Race for Education

Our exercise-focused fall fundraising event.

Race for Education is an exercise-focused fundraiser that gets students moving and raises money to support in-school learning resources — like iPads & technology upgrades, recess supplies & playground equipment, teacher grants for special projects, and “over & above” items to help teachers keep students engaged in the classroom. Parents provide a sheet of labels with the addresses of family & friends, and we will mail a personalized letter from your child’s classroom requesting sponsorships!

In October, all students participate in a grade-level fun run “race” on the district track for 45-minutes. They’ll run to the beat of high-energy music over the loudspeakers, and receive lap bracelets to track their running distance, a free water bottle, a healthy snack, and other cool prizes!

Donate $20 or more online to submit a message for your student runner!

Messages are displayed in the lobby & classrooms through Race Day!

FAQs

How does Race for Education work?

In September, a flyer and a sheet of mailing labels will be sent home with students. Parents will write or print as many addresses of family, friends, coworkers, etc. and return the sheet with their child the following week. Using those mailing addresses, PTO volunteers work with teachers to send a personalized letter from your child’s classroom requesting sponsorships. Donations will be sent directly to the school via mail or online during the next several weeks.

In October, students will run, by grade-level, on the district track to high energy music for approximately 45-minutes. They’ll receive lap bracelets to track their running distance, a free water bottle, a healthy snack, and other cool prizes for participating!

How can I volunteer to help on Race Day?

All volunteers must submit up-to-date clearances (volunteer disclosure, emergency contact info, criminal clearance, child abuse clearance, negative TB result, & FBI fingerprint - only needed in some cases) with the school office prior to volunteering. This is a school policy that the PTO must uphold for the safety of our students and protection of our teachers and staff. As long as your clearances are up-to-date, you can sign up for volunteer opportunities on our TimeToSignUp platform.

Can I walk or run with my child on Race Day?

Our school is allowing parents to walk with/run with their child on Race Day this year and school admin will communicate the sign-in process ahead of Race Day. However, only cleared volunteers with prior approval and BSSD staff members may assist students other than their own by handing out race bracelets to students, refill water bottles, distribute apples (donated by Peters Orchards), etc. on Race Day. We still need cleared volunteers to help with each grade’s race — please sign up on our Race Day Sign Up Sheet.

Are their PR opportunities for businesses to sponsor Race for Education?

Absolutely! Depending on the size of the sponsorship, we can coordinate a photo opportunity and/or logo recognition on our website, Facebook, and Twitter. Please email bsespto@bermudian.org for more information on business sponsorships.
